Activity Investigate starch content (carbohydrates) in food
Tools and materials:
• Bread
• Potatoes
• Rice
• Wheat flour
Tomato
• Bananas
• 6 small plates / 6 sheets of plastic size ± 15 cm X 15 cm
• Lugol / betadine solution
• Knives
Activity step:
1. Cut bread, potatoes, tomatoes, and bananas. Clean the knife every time you finish cutting the food.
2. Place each piece and rice and flour on a small plate / piece of plastic.
3. Drop the lugol / betadin solution onto the bread, wheat flour, rice, and chopped pieces of food.
4. Observe what happens to each food and ingredients. The changes that occur indicate that it is a feature of starch (Amylum)
